Series ‘What board to choose?’ – Cruisers

The 2nd part of our Series ‘What board to choose?’ is dedicated to Cruisers.  If you’re looking for a board to take you from A to B but also small enough to be easily carried around, then a Cruiser is the perfect pick for you!

With their bigger and softer wheels (compared to your usual trick board), they offer a much smoother ride.

So, you’ve gone on our Cruiser Completes page all excited about the idea of getting yourself a Cruiser and are now struggling to decide which one you should pick?

Here are a few pointers to help you determine what size would work best for you:
  1. Cruisers in the range of 28″ – 32″ (length) are great for young/smaller riders or someone who is looking for a super nimble board that can turn really fast (great for dodging people at uni!). The only downside is that they can get a little bit unstable for the inexperienced rider and for those with bigger feet, they might not feel comfortable enough!
  2. You can go smaller but we don’t recommend it if you’re just getting started.  The advantage of the “24 – 28” range  is obviously the size allowing it to fit easily in your bag.  The smaller cruiser is an ideal beginner’s board for the little grommets.
  3. If you want added stability, pick a board with a shape offering you a bit more width (for example, the OBfive Swallow Tails) or simply go for the 32″ and Up range.
  4. Furthermore, if you want to cruise on long distances and do not intend to carry your board around, there are also plenty of Longboards you could choose.  More info on Longboards will come in our next blog of the Series ‘What board to choose?’.

Remember, there is no good or bad choice when it comes to the size of a cruiser.  The goal is to find a board on which you feel comfortable.

The best way to pick is to come see us at the shop (Shop 5a, The Strand, Entrance on Griffith Street, Coolangatta, QLD) and we’ll get you to stand on a few boards to determine which one works best for you.

If you’re too far but would like some more advice, give us a call 07 5536 2677! We are open 7 days a week.
